Basra University Organizes a Scientific Workshop on Verifying the Accuracy of Water Analyses – Toward an Accredited Laboratory

The Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra organized a workshop titled “Verifying the Accuracy of Chemical Analysis Results for Water Samples.”

The workshop aimed to enable participants to apply systematic procedures to verify the integrity and accuracy of chemical analysis results for water samples, and the conditions for ensuring quality control of the analyses, from sample collection through to the issuance of the report, thereby ensuring compliance with quality requirements and reference standards (such as ISO/IEC 17025).

The workshop, presented by Dr. Abdul Zahra Abdul Rasul Al-Halo, covered the pre-analysis validation stage—evaluating sampling procedures, storage, transport, and recording—the analysis stage—verifying instrument operation, calibration, and standard solutions, as well as chromatogram controls—and the post-analysis stage: review of calculations, limits of detection, linearity, and control results, along with an explanation of statistical control tools, types of control samples, controls, and acceptance criteria

and how to apply the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 regarding the validity of results through the documentation of verification procedures and the conduct of external proficiency testing (PT).

Verification of bias and drift, and the preparation and handling of non-conformance reports.
