Department: Marine Vertebrates

        Apply international quality standards included in the international standard specifications ISO 9001 and the quality manual and academic accreditation issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and follow up on the latest developments in the field of scientific research and the development of research staff.

Department Goals

       The department aims to achieve the goals of the center and the university in community service through the following:

1- Carrying out studies and scientific research specialized in the sciences of fish, marine vertebrates and the surrounding aquatic environment.

2- Achieving self-sufficiency of local experts and qualifications in the field of fish sciences and aquatic environment to contribute to the preservation of fisheries and aquatic environment.

3- Develop research programs and studies to serve the preservation of water resources and their habitats.

4- Contribute to the preservation and maintenance of natural heritage, environmental resources and aquatic life.

5- Contribute to diagnosing and identifying problems of national importance in the field of fisheries and aquatic environment and developing appropriate solutions to them.

6- Creating a strong relationship between the Marine Science Center and the local community as well as striving to achieve a solid environmental and social awareness.

7- Enhancing the financial resources of the center by contributing to the development and productivity of fish farms.

8- Studying the various means of fishing and organizing fisheries, methods of developing and preserving them.

9- Organizing seminars and scientific workshops, participating in conferences, in addition to preparing studies and research that advance and serve the community.

10- Sustainable and development for aquaculture gears of fish, crustaceans, molluscs and others, in terms of acclimatization, breeding, hatching furthermore, care in the different stages of life and industrial feeding, as well as treating diseases that spread in fish farms.

11- Study of pollutants and their effects on aquatic organisms, including plants and animals, water and sediments.

       Leadership and excellence in the dissemination of scientific research in fish and aquatic environment sciences to keep pace with scientific and technological development and the requirements of academic standards to occupy a competitive place locally and regionally.

The mission

       The department seeks to enhance the quality of scientific research outputs in the field of fisheries and aquatic environment, with a significance research system, moreover to contribute to sustainable development and raise awareness for the benefit of society and the environment.
