The Centre for Marine Sciences at the University of Basra welcomes a delegation from the
Iraqi Women’s Advisory Council in Basra
The Director-General of the Centre for Marine Sciences, Dr Abdul-Amir Rahim Jassim, welcomed the women’s advisory team supporting the local government in Basra.
During the meeting, ways of achieving gender balance and strengthening the role of women in all aspects of university and community life were discussed
The aim of the meeting was to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the Women’s Advisory Group supporting the local government and the Centre for Marine Sciences, in order to review the most significant studies and research relating to climate change and its environmental and social impacts, with a focus on how these affect the situation of women in Basra Governorate.
The meeting also sought to discuss the challenges faced by women as a result of climate change, and to review scientific solutions and sustainable practices that contribute to enhancing women’s ability to adapt to these challenges, thereby supporting the development of actionable initiatives and recommendations that contribute to protecting the environment, empowering women and strengthening their role in achieving sustainable development.
