The University of Basra is organizing a training course on the determination of heavy element concentrations in a flame atomic absorption spectrometer

The Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra organized a training course titled “Determination of Heavy Metal Concentrations Using Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy.”

The training course aimed to equip participants with the practical and theoretical skills needed to analyze toxic metals (such as lead, cadmium, copper, etc.) etc.) in environmental and food samples with high accuracy and to qualify them to work in the fields of environmental monitoring, food analysis, and research laboratories.

The course, which was presented by Assoc. Prof. Ahmed Youssef Hamoud and Prof. Abdul Zahra Abdul Rasul Nima, Assoc. Prof. Zuhair Ali Abdul Nabi and Dr. Ahmed Majid Zidan

practical training on operating the flame atomic absorption spectrometer (FAAS), understanding its basic components, and learning methods for digesting and processing various samples (soil, water, tissue) and preparing them for analysis, as well as the accuracy in determining heavy element concentrations in unknown samples. It also covered how to convert the sample into a mist and free atoms using a flame (acetylene/air) for the purpose of measuring elements, along with training on the application of safety standards and adherence to laboratory safety procedures when handling concentrated acids and flames.
