Basra University organizes seminar on human rights laws

The Marine Science Center at the University of Basra, in collaboration with the community police in the province, organized a seminar entitled “Human Rights Laws from the Perspective of Security Institutions.”

The seminar aimed to raise legal and human rights awareness and open a joint dialogue between academics and specialists in law and human rights on the one hand, and representatives of security agencies on the other, to exchange views and develop effective proposals.

The seminar included several topics, the first of which was presented by community police representative Lt. Col. Muntazar Kazem Al-Mousawi, who discussed the balance between security duties and respect for human rights, explaining and clarifying the national and international legal frameworks that govern the work of security institutions and emphasizing the importance of strengthening trust between security institutions and citizens through respect for human rights, which in turn leads to increased community cooperation and social stability. Dr. Amjad Jassim Al-Shawi, head of the Human Rights Unit at the College of Education, pointed to practical recommendations that could contribute to the development of security institution policies and training and enhance their respect for human rights. Dr. Mohammed Mahdi Mohammed Yahya Al-Mousawi, head of the Human Rights Unit at the Center, emphasized the role of the university as an academic institution concerned with building bridges of knowledge with various state institutions to serve society.
