The University of Basra organizes a symposium on the marine nature in the environment of the Iraqi creeks

Under the patronage of the respected President of the University of Basra, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, and the supervision of the Director General of the Marine Science Center, the esteemed Prof. Dr. Nuri Abdulnabi Nasser, the Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra held the fourth symposium on marine nature and prospects for coastal investment in the environment of the Iraqi creeks (Khor Al-Zubayr and Khor Abdullah) and Shatt. Basra on the conference hall at the College of Pharmacy
The symposium opened with a scented recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem and the reading of Al-Fatihah for the souls of the martyrs, then the speech of the President of the University delivered by the Administrative Assistant Professor Dr. Ali acidi. This was followed by a speech by the Director General of the Center
During the symposium, lectures related to the topic were presented in two sessions (the first session in the morning and the second in the evening), during which scientific posters were presented on the same topic.
The symposium was attended by the President of Al-Maqal Al-Ahliya University, Prof. Dr. Badr Neamat Al-Badran, the Dean of the College of Engineering and the Rear Admiral Haider Omran Hassan, representing the Naval Academy and the representative of the Director of the General Company for Ports of Iraq Eng. Chief Engineers/ Al-Faw Grand Port Project Authority, Aqil Jassim Ramadan, at the symposium, and gave a lecture on the Great Port of Faw, as well as Al-Sarraj Al-Mu`a’i Company, which was related to the issue of investment, participated in the symposium.
The symposium was distinguished by the specialized attendance of the topic related to the issue of investment in the coastal investment environments that characterize Basra Governorate, and in line with the current trends to better understand the nature of these areas that distinguish Basra from the rest of Iraq, and how investment and construction serve to protect and stabilize our coasts and protect our communities, especially the Khor Abdullah coast and its southern part adjacent to the mouth of the Shatt al-Arab,

The importance of the breakwater in the great port of Faw and its positive role in creating new environments with biodiversity, as well as creating a fixed and protected coastline from future erosion processes, the symposium also dealt with projects related to mangrove cultivation and creating natural protected environments with investment objectives.
This symposium is a successful attempt to revive the three previous symposia that were interrupted more than 34 years ago. At the conclusion of the symposium, recommendations were taken with emphasis on continuing to hold such seminars periodically every two or three years, in cooperation and support with the concerned marine authorities with the Center for Marine Sciences, and focusing on On topics of research and studies that serve the environment, society and investment in coastal environments.
