The University of Basra Organizes a Workshop on the Provisions of Iraq’s Medical Disability Law
The Center for Marine Sciences at the University of Basra organized a specialized workshop titled “Medical Disability Law No. 11 of 1999”
The workshop aimed to clarify the legal and administrative procedures for assessing cases of disability among government employees, standardize the criteria for submitting medical reports, and refer employees unable to perform their duties to the relevant committees, thereby ensuring the protection of employees’ rights and the application of current legislation in accordance with legal regulations.
The workshop, presented by Legal Advisor Nisreen Shaker Enad, addressed key topics including the legal framework and an explanation of the mechanism for referring sick employees to the relevant medical committees, the permitted duration of sick leave before an employee is deemed unable to work, as well as medical and administrative aspects, including an explanation of the role of official medical committees in determining the degree and type of disability (total or partial), along with a review of the regulations governing termination of employment or referral to retirement due to poor health; and the guarantees and rights section, which discussed the employee’s financial and insurance rights resulting from a confirmed disability, as well as the mechanisms for objecting to or appealing the decisions of medical committees.
