The University of Basra Organizes a Course on the Use of Hydrazine in Steam Boiler Water Systems
The Center for Marine Sciences at the University of Basra organized a training course titled
Hydrazine Boiler Water System
The course aims to provide participants with a practical and scientific understanding of the use of hydrazine as a key agent for removing dissolved oxygen and protecting boiler systems from corrosion
The course, lectured by Dr. Bassam Ashour Rashid, covered several topics. The first was chemical fundamentals: the reaction of hydrazine with oxygen to produce water and nitrogen, and its preference over sodium sulfite because it does not increase dissolved salts; and operational applications: maintaining a reducing environment, determining optimal dosages, and protecting boilers during shutdown periods (wet lay-up); and monitoring and safety: laboratory methods for analyzing concentrations, managing health risks and the substance’s high toxicity, and applying prevention and safety standards.
