University of Basra Organizes Training Course on Oxidation-Reduction Potential
The Center for Marine Sciences at the University of Basra organized a training course titled “Oxidation-Reduction Potential.”
The course aimed to enable participants to understand the basic principle of oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), master methods for measuring and calibrating it, and recognize its applications in water treatment, environmental monitoring, and other fields.
The course, taught by Dr. Bassam Ashour Rashid and Dr. Inas Qasim Muhammad, covered the definition of ORP and its relationship to the oxidizing/reducing properties of a solution; the principle of measurement using an electrode (platinum electrode + reference electrode); calibration using standard solutions and methods for temperature correction; interpretation of readings (the higher the positive value, the greater the oxidizing power), as well as practical applications such as monitoring the disinfection process in wastewater treatment and drinking water treatment.
