University of Basra Organizes an Awareness Workshop on Climate Change
The Center for Marine Sciences organized a workshop titled “Climate Change: A Complex Issue Interlinked with Other Global Challenges”
The workshop aimed to build scientific awareness among participants regarding climate change as a global phenomenon with interconnected dimensions, to help them understand the relationship between its causes and environmental, economic, and social effects, and to encourage responsible behavior.
The workshop, led by Dr. Mahmoud Shaker Hashim, covered the scientific framework of the phenomenon and the mechanism of global warming, global interdependence and transboundary impact chains; causes and distribution of emissions; multiple impacts; climate justice and differentiated shared responsibility; the international response (the Paris Agreement); mitigation and adaptation measures; and practical activities such as calculating one’s carbon footprint
