Faculty Member at the Marine Sciences Center Earns Doctorate
Haider Shaker Darwish, a faculty member at the Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra, earned his doctorate from the Department of Plant Protection in the College of Agriculture after defending his dissertation titled
* A Diagnostic and Descriptive Study of Aquatic Predatory Insects of the Order Hemiptera and Their Role in the Biological Control of Incomplete Life Cycles of Mosquitoes in Some Areas of Southern Iraq*
The thesis aimed to identify species with high predatory efficiency against mosquito larvae and to raise awareness of the importance and role of biological control of mosquitoes in reducing the use of chemical control
The study examined the most important environmental factors affecting the distribution of these insects by measuring environmental parameters such as temperature, salinity, pH, and dissolved oxygen... as well as certain heavy metals.
The study recommended releasing and propagating these predators in mosquito breeding sites.
The thesis was accepted by the examination committee with a grade of “excellent.”
