Faculty Member at the Marine Sciences Center Participates in a Ph.D. Thesis Defense Committee
Prof. Dr. Abdul-Hussein Ja’far Abdullah served as a member of the committee for the defense of the Ph.D. thesis submitted by Ph.D. candidate Atour Abdul-Karim Taher in the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra.
The thesis was titled *Survey of Fish Spawning and Nursery Sites in Two Different Environments in Basra Governorate*.
The study aimed to monitor environmental changes in the two study areas (Shatt al-Arab and Khor al-Zubair) and to assess their impact on the structure of fish communities; to analyze the nature of the relationship between prevailing environmental variables and the aggregations of larvae and juvenile fish in the two study environments; to characterize the patterns of geographic distribution and abundance of the fish community and its juvenile stages; and to evaluate the ecological suitability of the two sites as natural habitats for rearing and reproduction…
The defense took place in an outstanding scientific atmosphere and featured in-depth academic discussions, during which Dr. Abdul-Hussein Ja’far Abdullah offered a series of precise scientific observations and guidance that enriched the discussion and enhanced the research value of the thesis.
At the conclusion of the session, the thesis committee expressed its appreciation for the effort expended in preparing the thesis and commended the significance of the results reached by the student, wishing her continued success in her academic and research career.
