University of Basra Participates in an Awareness Workshop on Crimes Involving Electronic Payment Cards
The Center for Marine Sciences at the University of Basra participated in a workshop titled “Protecting Society from Crimes Involving Electronic Payment Cards,” organized by the Basra Court of Appeals in cooperation with the Basra Governorate Security Committee.
The workshop, attended by Dr. Inas Qasim Muhammad and lecturer Zainab Fadel Jassim—representatives of the Women’s Affairs Committee at the Center for Marine Sciences at the University of Basra—covered ways to curb electronic fraud and theft, the difficulty of investigating these serious crimes, as well as the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of card data and the legal aspects involved. Judge Jassim Mohammed al-Mousawi explained that these crimes fall under the category of fraud as defined in Article 456 of the Penal Code.
The participation of representatives from the University of Basra reflected the university’s role in raising awareness and conducting academic research, as well as strengthening community partnerships to combat cybercrimes that affect everyone.
