A faculty member from the Marine Sciences Center participated as a member of the thesis defense committee for a master’s thesis as part of the joint scientific collaboration among the units of the University of Basra.
Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Youssef Hamoud, a faculty member at the Center for Marine Sciences at the University of Basra, participated as a member of the committee reviewing the master’s thesis of graduate student Alaa Jumaa Jayed from the Department of Applied Marine Sciences in the College of Marine Sciences.
The thesis is titled “Environmental Assessment of the Impact of Sewage Discharges on the Physical and Chemical Characteristics of the Shatt al-Arab Estuary and Adjacent Coastal Areas.”
The thesis aimed to identify changes in the physical and chemical characteristics of the water, determine the extent of the impact of wastewater discharges on the aquatic environment in the estuary and coastal areas, and provide accurate data to aid in understanding the environmental conditions and pollution levels in this sensitive aquatic area.
The Dean of the College of Marine Sciences at the University of Basra presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Dr. Ahmed Youssef Hamoud for his efforts in reviewing and evaluating the thesis and enriching the discussion with valuable scientific information.
