A faculty member from the Marine Sciences Center participated as a member and supervisor in the defense of a master’s thesis as part of the joint scientific collaboration among the units of the University of Basra.
Professor Dr. Tariq Hatab Yassin, a faculty member at the Marine Sciences Center/University of Basra, participated as a member and supervisor on the committee reviewing the master’s thesis of graduate student Wafa Abdul Hamid Abdul Razzaq from the Department of Environmental Science, College of Sciences.
titled “The Effect of Environmental Factors on the Acclimatization, Growth, and Cultivation of Metapenaeus affinis Shrimp in the Laboratory.”
The study aimed to determine the effect of environmental factors on the acclimatization, growth, and survival of shrimp under laboratory conditions in order to identify the optimal conditions for successful cultivation and to increase productivity in a sustainable manner.
The study assessed environmental tolerance using the half-lethal concentration (LC₅₀) index.
The study concluded that the successful cultivation of the shrimp species under study depends on stable and optimal environmental conditions, with the need to implement gradual acclimatization to improve production and reduce stress.
The Dean of the College of Sciences at the University of Basra presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Tariq Hatab Yassin for his efforts in reviewing and evaluating the dissertation and enriching the discussion with valuable scientific information.
