A faculty member from the Marine Sciences Center participated as a member of the thesis defense committee for a master’s thesis as part of the joint scientific collaboration among the units of the University of Basra.
Dr. Daoud Salman Banai, a faculty member at the Center for Marine Sciences at the University of Basra, participated as a member of the thesis defense committee for a master’s thesis by graduate student Abdullah Hatem al-Sukaini
from the Department of Earth Sciences, College of Sciences, titled “Morphotectonic Study of Shatt al-Arab Course Deviation in Southern Iraq Using Multi-Sensor Remote Sensing Data (Optical and Radar Images)
This study aimed to determine the relationship between neotectonic and subsurface geological structures, on the one hand, and the deviation of the Shatt al-Arab course in southern Iraq, on the other, through an integrated analysis of multi-sensor optical and radar data, and to develop a model that explains the morphotectonic mechanisms influencing the dynamics of the river channel.
The Dean of the College of Sciences at the University of Basra presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Daoud Salman Banai for his efforts in reviewing and evaluating the dissertation and enriching the discussion with valuable scientific insights.
