A faculty member from the Marine Sciences Center participated as a member of the doctoral dissertation defense committee as part of the joint scientific collaboration among the units of the University of Basra.
Professor Abdulkarim Taher Yasser, a faculty member at the Marine Sciences Center/University of Basra and Director of the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance at the University of Basra, participated as a member of the committee reviewing the doctoral dissertation titled * Extraction of Bioactive Compounds from the Residues of Certain Local Grains and a Study of Their Nutritional and Physiological Effects on Juvenile Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio L.)  *
by graduate student (Ph.D.) Zainab Shaker Salem in the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources, College of Agriculture
   The thesis addressed the study of certain growth parameters and feed evaluation, various hematological and physiological indicators, the chemical composition of the fish’s body, and the measurement of the bacterial community (total bacterial count, lactic acid bacteria, and Escherichia coli) in the fish’s intestines.
     The study aimed to develop simple and economically viable methods for extracting bioactive compounds from wheat bran, barley bran, and rice bran, adding them to the diets of common carp as supplements, and determining their effects on growth and nutrition, as well as certain hematological and physiological indicators.
The Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Abdulkarim Taher Yasser for his efforts in reviewing and evaluating the thesis and enriching the discussion with valuable scientific information.
