The University of Basra Raises the Banner of Husayni Mourning to Mark the Beginning of the Month of Mourning

This morning, the University of Basra, in collaboration with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, inaugurated the Flag of Mourning for Imam Hussein Festival to mark the start of its activities during the holy month of Muharram 1448 AH, which included rousing speeches and poems commemorating the tragic and heartbreaking events of the Battle of Karbala that befell Imam Hussein and his companions, peace be upon them.

The university president, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad al-Asadi, said, “As it does every year, the University of Basra has consistently held mourning ceremonies for al-Hussein, his brother Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas, and their companions, peace be upon them. and today, in cooperation with the Holy Husayni Shrine, we raise the banner of Husayni mourning to announce the launch of our service program for this month, which will include numerous activities aimed at providing services to visitors for the Arba’een of Imam Husayn arriving from the Islamic Republic of Iran via the Shalamjah border crossing en route to the Qibla of the Free in holy Karbala.”

Al-Asadi added, “The program also includes setting up tents and service convoys to provide lodging for visitors and offer food and drink around the clock, as well as providing a fleet of vehicles to transport visitors free of charge to the holy city of Karbala, as well as the establishment of a field hospital at the Shalamjah border crossing, supervised by a select group of university consultant physicians who will accompany the visitors during their journey to Karbala and their return to Basra, not to mention the educational volunteer campaigns that will tour the procession and tents of the faithful brothers serving the visitors of Abu Abdullah al-Hussein, peace be upon him, to raise visitors’ awareness of the importance of adhering to the timeless principles of the Husayni Revolution.
