University of Basra Holds Workshop on Treating Polluted Water
The Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra organized a scientific workshop titled “Treating Industrially Polluted Water Using Agricultural Waste”
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the use of agricultural waste (such as grain straw, palm fronds, and corn stalks) as absorbent, low-cost, and environmentally friendly materials for treating water contaminated with heavy metals.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Mahasen Ghafar Hashim, covered types of industrial pollutants and the adsorption mechanism—how agricultural waste absorbs industrial pollutants such as heavy metals—
and how to measure treatment efficiency using devices such as atomic absorption spectrometers.
