The University of Basra is organizing a course on thermal insulation

The Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra organized a course titled “Thermal Insulation for Rockets, Nuclear Reactors, and Spacecraft Using Silicon Carbide and Magnesium Oxide Reinforced with Silica (MgO, SiC, Si).”

The course aimed to train engineers and researchers in the fields of advanced materials and space to design, manufacture, and evaluate high-performance thermal insulation systems capable of withstanding extreme conditions.

The course, presented by Dr. Manaf Qasim Jaber, covered the use of advanced composite materials, primarily silicon carbide (SiC) and magnesium oxide (magnesia—MgO) reinforced with silica fibers or binders (SiO₂), and a review of their vital roles in providing protection against high temperatures, mechanical stress, and corrosion using silicon carbide (SiC) and magnesium oxide (MgO) composites reinforced with silicon (Si), through an understanding of insulation mechanisms and material interactions.
