Professor Dr. Abdul Zahra Abdul Rasul Al-Halo, a faculty member at the Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra, published a joint research paper with a group of researchers titled *Water Resources in Southern Iraq: Current Status, Future Developments, Challenges, and Potential Solutions*
in the international journal *Hydrology*, which is ranked in the first quartile (Q1) with an impact factor of 3.2. Published by the Swiss publisher MDPI, the journal focuses on publishing original and applied research on the distribution, movement, and quality of water on Earth, including groundwater, surface water, and atmospheric water. It focuses on water cycle processes, environmental hydrology, and water resource management.
This paper reviews previous studies, summarizes the current situation, analyzes key challenges, and explores a range of potential solutions for further research. The analysis in this study is essential for guiding advanced research efforts that provide a deeper understanding of the challenges and propose practical solutions. This research paper identifies key topics for future research to address the water crisis
