The University of Basra is organizing a specialized training course on soil assessment

The Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra organized a specialized course titled “Methods for Collecting Soil Samples Representative of the Field or Land Area to Be Studied, and Methods for Physical and Morphological Soil Analysis”

The course aimed to train participants and equip them with the scientific and practical knowledge necessary for accurate soil study, ranging from how to represent the cultivated area to understanding its physical properties.

The course, taught by lecturer M. M. Hala Ali Shabar, M. researchers Amal Hussein Ali and Aqil Ziboun Nasser, covered several topics. The first was representative soil sampling methods, explaining the scientific methodologies for selecting sites and taking soil samples that accurately reflect the characteristics of the field or target land area, as well as training on laboratory techniques to determine the physical properties of soil and introducing participants to how to describe the soil profile (morphology) and identifying different soil horizons.

This course aims to enhance the competence of personnel working in the agricultural and environmental sectors, as understanding soil characteristics is fundamental to the success of agricultural plans and land reclamation.
