The University of Basra Organizes a Training Course on Climate Change and Its Impact on Biodiversity

The Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra organized a training course titled “Climate Change and Its Impact on Biodiversity.”

The course aimed to enhance scientific understanding of the mechanisms of global warming and to analyze the direct impacts on ecosystems and vegetation, with a focus on adaptation and mitigation strategies.

The course, led by Dr. Abdul Hussein Jafar Abdullah, covered scientific topics including the causes of climate change, its impact on the health of ecosystems and species distribution, and sustainable solutions.

The course included an explanation of the greenhouse effect, greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane), and the human and natural factors influencing them.

It also covered shifts in the distribution of plants and animals, the degradation of natural habitats, the threat of species extinction, and the impacts on plant diversity

and a reference to measures to mitigate damage, such as sustainable resource management, the development of disaster-resilient infrastructure, and afforestation, along with reducing emissions, investing in renewable energy, and promoting energy efficiency, while addressing international agreements on climate and the environment.
