The Marine Science Center organized a training course entitled
* Emergency Planning and Response in Marine Science Center Laboratories*
The objective of the Emergency Planning and Response in Marine Science Laboratories course is to provide staff with the skills and knowledge necessary to deal with potential incidents (chemical, biological, natural) effectively and safely, to minimize damage and protect lives and property, and to ensure a safe working environment through training on correct procedures, leadership, and quick decision-making during crises.
The course, presented by Dr. Bassam Rashid Ashour, Head of Scientific Laboratories at the Marine Science Center, included strengthening researchers' ability to implement emergency policies and procedures, identifying and assessing potential laboratory risks (spills, fires, biological contamination), and developing comprehensive emergency plans that include evacuation, rescue, and communication, and training researchers on how to act quickly and in a coordinated manner during crises using available resources.
They also teach how to minimize human and material losses, protect the environment and research equipment, and educate on leadership mechanisms, rapid decision-making, and team management during disasters. They continuously emphasize ensuring that plans and procedures remain effective and appropriate for the changing conditions of the laboratory.
