Basra University organizes a course on honey bee breeding

The Marine Science Center at the University of Basra organized a course on the basics of honey bee breeding .

The course aimed to enable participants to acquire the knowledge and practical skills to manage apiaries in scientific ways, and to raise their awareness of the economic and environmental importance of bees.

The course, which was lectured by Dr. Mahmoud Shaker Hashim , included covered the parts of a beehive and the most important tools used by beekeepers to inspect hives, sort honey, and make use of various bee products (honey, wax, royal jelly, pollen), as well as improving the standard characteristics of honey bees through queen breeding.

She recommended the need to select hives with standard production specifications and good queens to ensure the sustainability of beekeeping and achieve economic and social goals.
