The Marine Science Center organized a training course entitled “Petroleum Hydrocarbons: Extraction, Quantitative and Qualitative Assessment.”

The course aimed to highlight oil pollution in water and sediments and to teach methods of collecting samples, extracting hydrocarbon compounds from them, and measuring them quantitatively and qualitatively using fluorescence and gas chromatography devices.

The course, which was presented by Dr. Abbas Adel Hantoush, Dr. Mariam Fawzi Hamid, and Dr. Abdul Hussein Ali Al-Khuwaidam, covered the sources and types of these compounds, methods of extraction, and modern techniques for their diagnosis.
