Basra University organizes lecture on human rights and environmental protection

The Marine Science Center organized an awareness lecture entitled “Human Rights to a Clean Environment Free from Pollution.”

The lecture aimed to raise awareness about environmental pollution, link daily practices to their environmental impacts, and give individuals the tools they need to participate in environmental conservation and policy-making.

The lecture, presented by Dr. Mohammed Mehdi Mohammed Yahya Al-Mousawi, emphasized that the right to a healthy and clean environment is a fundamental human right, as it is a prerequisite for the full enjoyment of other rights such as the right to life, health, food, and water. The international community has recognized this right and links environmental degradation to the deterioration of human rights. To achieve this, joint efforts by governments, civil society, and the private sector are required to protect the environment, with laws and policies ensuring the effectiveness of this protection while taking into account the rights of all members of society, especially the most vulnerable groups.
