Training course on marine fish farming in Basra Governorate

The Marine Science Center at the University of Basra organized a training course on marine fish farming in Basra Governorate.

The course aimed to introduce participants to the importance of marine fish farming in Basra province for achieving food security, supporting the local economy, reducing dependence on fish imports, and protecting natural marine stocks by providing a sustainable alternative to overfishing.

The course, presented by Dr. Faleh Musa Jafar, included a lecture on the importance of marine fish farming in Basra and the urgent need to establish a marine station for marine fish farming and breeding in Basra.

The course covered the types of marine fish farmed in the waters of Shatt al-Arab, an overview of the life cycle of these species and methods of farming them, the components and requirements of hatcheries for breeding these fish, and methods of using certain hormones to stimulate artificial breeding.
