Basra University organizes training workshop on sustainable fish stock management

The Marine Science Center at the University of Basra organized a training workshop entitled “Sustainable Fish Stock Management.”

The goal of fish stock management is to achieve a balance between the exploitation of water resources and ensuring their long-term sustainability by studying fish stocks.

The course, taught by Adi Mohammed Hassan Qasim, included an explanation of sustainable fish stock management, which includes key points on regulating exploitation to preserve fish stocks and assessing stocks using direct and indirect methods such as counting or using programs such as FiSAT II. It also focused on drawing up appropriate plans to maintain sustainable stock levels and maximize production, in addition to discussing modern methods of stock assessment and protection.
