Professor Aba Zar Jabbar Bashar, a lecturer at the Marine Science Center at the University of Basra, published a scientific paper entitled “Study of the Effect of Weather Factors on Sea Level Fluctuations in the Northwest Arabian Gulf: A Case Study Using Deep Learning and Advanced Statistical Models to Improve Prediction”

in the journal Ocean Modelling

published by Elsevier and classified as a Q1 Scopus journal with an impact factor of 2.5. The journal covers all aspects of ocean modeling research to support the advancement of ocean sciences.

The study aimed to enhance flood forecasting through promising applications in disaster preparedness and the implementation of coastal flood mitigation strategies.

The study showed how the integration of atmospheric variables affects the accuracy of sea level variability (SLV) model predictions in the northwestern Arabian Gulf, using SARIMAX, LSTM, and CNN&LSTM models.
