Marine Science Center organizes second scientific workshop on Basra tidal flat

The second workshop on assessing the environmental situation in Nazim Shat al-Basra was held at the Marine Science Center. The workshop examined research papers on the preliminary results of assessing the severe pollution at the Nazim site. This followed on-site hydrological tests, seabed surveys, and chemical, biological, bacterial, and sedimentary analyses of the nature of pollutants in the area, which suffers from sewage and industrial wastewater discharge. The center contributed more than 30 advanced researchers in various disciplines to the workshop. The research included quarterly results for 2024 and 2025, and there was a thorough discussion of the preliminary results in the presence of the center's staff and the director of the Basra Shatt Department, Chief Engineer Haider Shannan Sallal, to find the best and most successful solutions to treat pollution, which poses a major challenge for some sites in the Basra governorate Basra, particularly the Nazim site.
