The Department of Sedimentology and Marine Sediments at the Marine Science Center of the University of Basra organized an evaluative scientific symposium aimed at reviewing and evaluating the department's scientific and research activities and achievements over the past seven years (2018-2025).

In the opening session, Prof. Wissam Razzaq Mutashar, Head of the Sedimentology Department, gave a comprehensive lecture that included a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the department's scientific activities. The discussion focused on analyzing the extent of development in scientific publishing over the past seven years (2018-2025), which revealed a significant increase in the percentage of publications in reputable international journals, reflecting the qualitative and quantitative development of the research produced.

The second part of the event included an exhibition of scientific posters, along with a presentation of reputable published research, highlighting the most prominent published research and distinguished scientific projects accomplished by the department's researchers. This section presented a vivid picture of the journey of research excellence and achievement witnessed during the period from 2018 to 2025.

This symposium comes within the framework of the center's keenness to document achievements and review performance periodically, with the aim of promoting excellence and advancing scientific research in the field of marine sciences.
