The Marine Science Center at the University of Basra organized a training workshop on the current relationship between chemistry and the environment.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Sita Aram Kyork, aimed to raise awareness of the importance of green chemistry in promoting environmental sustainability. It also aimed to introduce participants to how to design environmentally friendly chemicals, reduce pollution and carbon emissions, and promote the use of clean and sustainable energy sources to minimize the negative impact of industries on the environment.
The workshop addressed the current relationship between chemistry and the environment around the development of green and sustainable chemistry, which aims to reduce pollution and prevent the generation of hazardous waste at the core of chemical and industrial processes, rather than simply treating pollution after it occurs. These strategies invest in the design of safer chemicals and products, improving resource and energy efficiency, and using renewable raw materials, thus contributing to environmental protection and human health.
