Professor Abbas Jasim Al-Faisal, a member of the Marine Science Center, participated in the doctoral thesis discussion committee for Firas Mahdi Abdul-Razzaq, a graduate student and doctoral candidate in the Animal Production Department at the College of Agriculture at Al-Qasim Green University. The title of his thesis is:

"Morphological and Genetic Relationships of Some Species of the Cyprinidae Family in Shatt al-Hilla, Iraq."

The study aimed to analyze the genetic diversity and relationships of four Cyprinidae species, Luciobarbus xanthopterus, Arabibarbus grypus, Carasobarbus luteus, and Cyprinus carpio, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA sequencing techniques. The study also examined morphological and numerical characteristics.

The thesis emphasized the importance of using molecular methods to protect fish and conserve river species in Iraq.
