Two professors from the University of Basra had their research published in an international journal indexed by Scopus

Two professors from the Marine Science Center at the University of Basra — Prof. Abbas Jasim Toman Al-Faisal and Prof. Falah Ma'ruf Mutlak — along with other researchers, published a scientific paper titled:

"Occurrence of Finless Sole, Pardachirus marmoratus (Lacepede, 1802), in Iraqi Marine Waters."

The Presence of Finless Sole (Pardachirus marmoratus) in Iraqi Marine Waters.

was published in the Romanian journal North-Western Journal of Zoology.

, published by the University of Oradea Publishing House.

Classified as Scopus Q3, the journal has a CiteScore of 1.2 and publishes research on zoology and animal ecology.

This study aimed to contribute to the creation of a valuable scientific database on finless fish in Iraqi waters to help develop plans for preserving marine biodiversity and protecting the environment.

This study documents the northernmost extent of this species in the Indian Ocean.

The fish's presence in Iraqi waters is significant from an environmental standpoint because it indicates the existence of a species adapted to specific environmental conditions. Knowing the distribution and abundance of different species in an ecosystem is essential to accurately assessing its health and efficiency. The finless mullet's presence in Iraqi waters is attributed to its wide natural range. This may be due to marine factors, such as winds, ocean currents, and larval drift; foraging; or human activity that introduces one of this species' life cycle stages.
