The Culture and Society Committee at the Marine Science Center held a memorial service for Ashura, commemorating Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), his family, and his companions who were martyred in the Battle of Karbala. The ceremony took place under the direct supervision of the Center's Director General, Dr. Shaker Ghalib Ajil, and was attended by several professors and Center employees.
Dr. Muhammad Mahdi Al-Mousawi began the ceremony with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran.
Then, Sheikh Sajjad Abdullah Abdulsada spoke about Imam Hussein, considering him a shining page in Islamic history that remains a guiding light and a torch of enlightenment that renews and illuminates ideas. These pages require pause for reflection and review to establish a foundation.
Dr. Mustafa Sami Fadag and Dr. Hassan Khalil Hassan from our center participated by reciting poems that commemorated Imam Hussein and the events of Karbala. The poems emphasized the human values for which Imam Hussein sacrificed himself and raised awareness of the importance of revolting against injustice and corruption. The poems also stirred up passionate emotions toward the Ahl al-Bayt. The poems aimed to reinforce the concepts of heroism, courage, and sacrifice for truth and to spread justice and equality.
Peace be upon Hussein, Ali ibn Hussein, and the companions of Hussein. Peace be upon the souls that have settled in your courtyard, O Abu Abdullah.
