Lecture on the examination of micro- and nanoplastics in marine waters for sustainable development of the marine environment

The lecture, delivered by Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Ridha Jassim, a lecturer at the University of Basra's Marine Science Center, covered the concept of micro- and nanoplastics, their manufacture, uses, and environmental impacts. Pollution from micro- and nanoplastics poses the greatest environmental challenges of the modern era, especially in marine ecosystems, and poses a real threat to marine life and human health. Therefore, monitoring and examining these particles is a step towards restoring and preserving marine ecosystems and achieving a balance between the exploitation of marine resources and sustainable development. This is achieved by protecting marine biodiversity, ensuring the integrity of the food chain, and supporting the economy. The importance of examination lies in assessing the extent of pollution, understanding the biological impact, and providing scientific data to support sound environmental decision-making.
