The Marine Science Center organized a training course titled "Freshwater Alternatives in the Oil Industry."
The course, presented by Dr. Hassan Khalil Hassan, a lecturer at the Marine Science Center, addressed the use of modern technologies as alternatives to water in oil well injection. These include carbon dioxide injection to increase the productivity of oil reservoirs, the injection of polymers, nitrogen, or water vapor, the use of thermal technologies, or the combination of multiple methods to separate oil with petroleum solvents to facilitate the extraction process.
The course aimed to clarify the extent to which the reliance of extractive and refining industries in Iraq has affected surface water in rivers and the significant threat this poses to the future of water in Basra.
