The Department of Chemistry and Marine Pollution, in cooperation with the Culture and Society Committee at the Marine Science Center at the University of Basra, organized an awareness seminar entitled "Smoking: Its Causes and Harmful Effects on Human and Social Health."
The lecture aimed to explain the dangers of smoking to individual and societal health, as it contains thousands of harmful chemicals that cause respiratory diseases, heart disease, and cancer. It also causes environmental, economic, and psychological damage, the long-term negative effects of which can be devastating.
The lecture, delivered by Dr. Sita Aram Kyork, aimed to raise community awareness of the dangers of smoking, change misconceptions about this widespread phenomenon, encourage people to reduce smoking and quit smoking altogether, and spread awareness about the harms of smoking and its negative health, psychological, economic, social, and environmental impacts.
