Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, the esteemed President of the University of Basra, and under the direct supervision of Professor Dr. Shaker Ghaleb Ajeel, Director General of the Marine Sciences Center. On the occasion of National Tree Planting Day, which falls on March 12, 2024, and as part of the extensive tree planting campaign launched by the University of Basra across its entire area, our center participated in this national initiative that supports the protection of our environment by planting trees, shrubs, and flowers around the center. This initiative was supervised by the center's faculty and staff, both academic and administrative. On the same occasion, a workshop entitled "For a Better Environment, Plant a Tree" was held at the center, presented by Dr. Abdul Kadhim Nasser Saleh, a lecturer at the College of Agriculture, who discussed the importance of this national tree planting campaign and explained the practical foundations of garden engineering and design. The workshop included a lecture by Dr. Mahmoud Shaker Hashem, head of the afforestation unit at the Marine Science Center, on the project to plant green roofs, walls, home gardens, and public institutions. The workshop aimed to implement the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's plan to raise environmental awareness and expand green spaces in universities and educational institutions.
