For sustainable underwater development, the University of Basra organizes a course on some practical applications of fish life

The course, presented by lecturer Dr. Falah Marouf Mutlaq and a number of researchers from the Marine Science Center, covered applications for estimating fish ages using bone fragments, their preparation methods, and regression calculations. It also covered calculating the gonad function using GIS to determine the spawning season of fish, as well as fertility calculations and gonad development stages and their descriptions. It also covered practical applications in calculating nutritional components using weight, volumetric, and numerical methods, frequency of occurrence, and the point method, as well as calculating trophic interference among fish, and calculating vital indicators for fish communities.
The course aimed to provide the information required for future plans to manage, improve, and sustain fish stocks, and the possibility of propagating, rearing, and preserving them.
