
The two lecturers at the Marine Science Center at the University of Basra, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Adnan Kamel and Assistant Professor Dr. Dhafar Zahir Habib, participated in the discussion committee of the thesis of the doctoral student Mahasin Ghaffar Hashim in the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources, College of Agriculture, University of Basra, which dealt with the use of some environmental and biological indicators to assess the quality of water in the Shatt al-Arab, north of Basra city, southern Iraq.
The thesis aimed to study the changes in environmental factors and their impact on the quality of the Shatt al-Arab water and the composition of the fish population, and to determine the quality category of the Shatt al-Arab water and the relationship between biological and environmental indicators.
The study included three stations, namely Al-Qurna, Al-Deir and Al-Hartha, in which 47 fish species were recorded, and the values of the water quality index and the biological integration index were shown for each station.
The Deanship of the College of Agriculture appreciated the efforts made by the members of the discussion committee and their scientific and academic commitment, wishing them continued giving and brilliance in serving the scientific process in our beloved country.
