
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basra organized a lecture on artisanal fisheries in the Arabian Gulf.
The lecture, presented by lecturer Adi Mohammed Hassan, reviewed the analysis of the reports of the Regional Commission for Fisheries of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and related information derived from the results of published studies in this regard to provide basic information for sustainable fisheries management.
The lecture stressed the importance of fisheries in the Gulf due to their connection to the food security of the peoples of the region, and the need for cooperation between the countries of the region to maintain these fish stocks and manage them sustainably, especially fish groups that many countries participate in exploiting, in addition to the priority of working to improve statistics related to fisheries and management of stocks that are heavily exploited and encouraging the exchange of statistics, information and technical expertise among the countries of the region.
