Educational seminar entitled: Reducing illegal immigration

 

 

The Media and Government Communication Unit at the Marine Science Center, in cooperation with the Culture and Society Unit at the Center, organized an educational seminar entitled (Reducing Illegal Immigration).

The seminar aimed to (identify the concept of illegal immigration, its causes and consequences, and some of the ways that can be taken to reduce illegal immigration).

The seminar, in which Mr. Imad Al-Yasiri from the Human Rights Commission, Basra Branch, lectured, addressed the fact that immigration is a global phenomenon present in many countries of the world, both developed and developing. It is a natural human phenomenon as old as history, known to all peoples. It is one of the disturbing issues that troubles countries receiving immigrants. Immigration is no longer limited to young men only, but women and children are now on the list of those wishing to immigrate abroad.

The lecturer explained that illegal immigration has witnessed a noticeable increase in recent times by Iraqi youth who were pushed by security, economic and social conditions to think about immigration.

The most important proposals that came out of the seminar

1- Eliminating the causes of illegal immigration by improving the economic level and providing job opportunities for young people, which is considered the goal The main reason behind migration

2- Protecting the rights of illegal immigrants and ensuring their safe return to their homelands.

3- Implementing awareness campaigns to talk about the risks and consequences of illegal immigration, and directing individuals towards legal and safe ways of migration.

4- Encouraging social dialogue on migration issues to understand challenges and needs and search for comprehensive solutions.
