Participation of the lecturer at the Marine Science Center / University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Bassam Ashour Rashid, in discussing a master's thesis in the Department of Environmental Science, College of Science, University of Basra, on the assessment of air pollutants resulting from gas flaring in the Rumaila oil field, Basra, Iraq.
The study presented by the student Hussein Talib Khreibish aims to assess the levels and changes of some air pollutants and analyze satellite data to determine patterns of pollutant spread in Basra.
The thesis included the impact of gas flaring activities on air quality in the Rumaila oil field in cooperation with the German Max-planck Institute.
The study concluded that gas flaring causes exceeding local and global air quality standards and how meteorological factors affect the dispersion of pollutants.
The study recommended implementing strategies to control emissions in the Rumaila field and the importance of monitoring to assess air quality in Basra Governorate.
