Researchers from the Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra, Dr. Wissam Razzaq Mutashar, Dr. Qasim Mazal Aflih, and Dr. Daoud Salman Banai in the Marine Sediment Department at the Center, in cooperation with researchers from Australia, the University of Lincoln, and the University of Babylon, published a scientific study in the Journal of Earth and Environmental Sciences, which is located within the  Clarvet is in the first quarter in Scopus.  The research is entitled (Coastline stability evaluation: multitemporal bathymetric mapping and sediment characteristics).
The study focused on the temporal analysis of the change in the Iraqi coastline during the past fifty years. In the analysis, the researchers relied on several techniques in analyzing bathymetric maps (depths), with the help of coastal and sediment analysis techniques and within the environment of the GSS system, to determine the places of erosion and sedimentation in the coastal region.  The study highlights the importance of monitoring coastline change and taking the necessary measures to reduce the negative effects of these changes.
