The Marine Biology Department at the Marine Science Center at the University of Basra organized a scientific workshop on (the role of aquatic biology and plants in purifying polluted water).

The most important aquatic life and its role in purifying water and determining the efficiency of plants and crustaceans used in removing pollutants and their role in treating organic waste as a natural and environmentally friendly method and setting a rule for treating sewage pollution that can be applied to limited water, such as establishing a sewage system for a group of homes or a factory or hospital
The workshop showed the most important types of aquatic plants used in phytoremediation, which are algae, reeds, sedge, and golan. The animals included brine shrimp, oars, bacteria, fungi and crustaceans.
