Two teachers at the Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra published a joint research in a solid international journal

The two instructors at the Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Abd al-Ridha Lafta and the lecturer  Adel Jassim Muhammad, published a paper entitled (General characteristics of surface waves in Iraqi marine waters) in the (Arabian Journal of Geosciences), which is one of the sober international journals issued by the international publishing house Springer.
The research aims to clarify the general characteristics of the surface waves generated in the Iraqi marine waters in terms of the heights that these waves reach, as well as calculating the wave time for them because these waves have direct effects on the overall marine activities and the movement of ships in the Iraqi marine waters. The study concluded that the greatest height that waves may reach is about 1.95 meters.
The study also showed that waves of large heights are usually associated with southeast winds.
