The researcher at Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basra, Mazen Abdul-Hussein Badan, gave a lecture on marine oil pollution and methods of combating it.
Marine oil pollution is one of the important problems in Iraq in general and Basra in particular, given that the city of Basra is an exporter of oil through Iraq’s territorial waters, and there is also the Shatt al-Arab, which is a passage for many ships that may be exposed to oil leaks from the marine pieces passing through it.
The lecture deals with the causes of marine oil pollution and its effects on the aquatic environment (salty or fresh) and treatment methods (control). The lecture focused on treatment methods in detail and diagnosed the advantages and disadvantages of each method in order to determine which techniques are the best in treatment.
