Within the framework of cooperation and the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the University of Basra to open up to state institutions and provide scientific and practical lectures to advance the members of the institutions and open job opportunities for graduates and youth... A faculty member at the Marine Sciences Center, Assistant Professor Dr. Mahmoud Shaker Hashem (Head of the Basra Specialized Association for Beekeeping and Honey Production for the period from 2012 to 2021, Agricultural Association) in cooperation with the Department of Agricultural Guidance and Training / Training Guidance Center / Ministry of Agriculture, lecturer in the training course on 2/4/2025 entitled (Scientific Foundations for Honey Bee Breeding) and a number of employees from the Guidance Center and departments participated in it: (Basra Governorate / National Center for Occupational Health and Safety and the Veterinary Hospital in Basra, Seed Inspection and Certification Department) and their number was more than 28 trainees, as the course topics included the following:
# The Qur’anic verse in which bees were mentioned and its faith and cognitive implications... and after that an introduction to the life of honey bees and the important trees that bees feed on, pollen and nectar from which honey is produced and the tools that the beekeeper uses in the apiary.
# An illustrative diagram of the members of the bee colony from the egg stage to the complete insect.
# Types of honey bees and types of beehives.
# Beekeeping products including wax, honey, bee bread, etc.:
# Problems and solutions including the problems facing beekeepers and how to solve them, in addition to the difference between beekeepers and honeymakers.
# During the course, the modern beehive called (Langstroth) and its components were presented to the trainees, as well as the tools and equipment used in beekeeping and the function of each.
# Presentation of questions and answers for beginners in beekeeping and how to benefit from them in establishing an apiary.
